What Exactly Happens at a Life Drawing Hen Party?
Your Buff Butler host arrives, sets everything up, and runs 45 minutes of sketching challenges followed by 45 minutes of party games — all at your accommodation. No art skills required; no awkward silences.
Arrival and Setup
Most people imagine art school — easels, silence, tension. This is nothing like that. Your host arrives around 15 minutes before the session starts. They bring everything: drawing boards, paper, pencils, and a full session plan. You don’t move a stick of furniture unless you want to.
Warm-Up and Sketching
Once everyone’s settled, the host opens with a short warm-up — usually a 60-second blind contour sketch that gets instant laughs and instantly kills any self-consciousness in the room.
Drawing Challenges
From there, the session moves through progressively playful challenges: timed poses, group sketches, and increasingly dramatic model positions. The host judges the results, announces a winner, and keeps energy moving throughout.
Party Games
After 45 minutes, the sketchbooks go down and the games begin. The second half is pure hen party entertainment — hosted games built around the group, with your drawings sometimes becoming props.
Sessions end with a gallery moment where everyone’s work gets displayed and photographed. The whole thing takes 90 minutes. Groups consistently say it goes faster than expected.
What a Typical Session Looks Like, Minute by Minute
| Time | What’s Happening |
|---|---|
| Arrival — 15 mins before | Host sets up boards and materials at your venue. |
| 0:00 | Welcome and warm-up sketch — breaks the ice immediately. |
| 0:10 | First timed drawing challenge, around 60 seconds per pose. |
| 0:20 | Group sketch round — everyone draws the same pose simultaneously. |
| 0:35 | Host judging and gallery moment for drawings so far. |
| 0:45 | Transition to party games — hosted and hen-specific. |
| 1:10 | Final game and prize round. |
| 1:25 | Group photo with all artwork displayed. |
| 1:30 | Host packs down — you’re free to carry on your evening. |
How Much Does It Cost — and What Do You Actually Get?
£260 for the full 90-minute session — one flat price, nothing else to pay. No per-head charge, no materials fee, no travel surcharge within our standard coverage area, and no gratuity expected.
The price does not change based on group size.

Is This Right for Your Group?
Yes for most hen party groups — especially mixed ages, mixed friendships, and anyone hosting at a private property. Here’s an honest breakdown of when it works best and when it might not be the ideal fit.
It Works Particularly Well When
- Not everyone knows each other — the drawing warm-up breaks ice faster than drinks
- You want a structured activity rather than an open evening with no anchor
- Your group has a mix of ages — life drawing tends to appeal across generations
- You’re doing a daytime or early-evening hen before heading out for dinner or drinks
- You’re staying in a private property and don’t want to hire a separate venue
It May Not Be Ideal If
- Your group is fewer than 4 people — the dynamics work better with 6–15 guests
- You’re looking for something very high-energy from the start — cocktail making or a butler evening might suit better
- Your accommodation has very limited floor space — give us a call and we can advise
If you’re unsure, call us on 01483 363051 and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a good fit.
What Caterham Groups Have Said
Groups consistently describe the session as better than expected — particularly the speed at which everyone relaxes.
“I was the sceptic who thought this sounded a bit awkward. By the end I was crying with laughter at my own drawing. The host was brilliant — kept everything moving without it feeling rushed. Would book again without hesitation.”
— Gemma T., guest at a Caterham hen party, October 2024
“Organised this for my sister’s hen do at an Airbnb in Caterham. The host arrived exactly on time, the session ran like clockwork, and the price was exactly what was quoted — no surprises. Perfect.”
— Lauren K., hen party organiser, January 2025
“We were a mixed group — some in their 20s, some in their 50s — and everyone loved it equally. That’s rare for a hen activity. The drawing was a lot more fun than it sounds.”
— Jo R., Caterham hen weekend, August 2024

Where to Stay
Private Airbnbs are the norm — filter for 8+ guests on Church Hill or Harestone Valley Road for larger group-friendly properties. For our sessions, you need a room where guests can sit in a rough semicircle; most living rooms work. Share your venue dimensions when you enquire and we’ll confirm.
Group Lunch
The King & Queen in Caterham-on-the-Hill is the most group-friendly option — pre-book for 8+. The Boundary on the Green on Guards Avenue has a beer garden if weather allows.
Post-Session Dinner
Crown & Pepper on Godstone Road is popular for Indian and Chinese food; Royal Tandoori is another option for curry. Reigate, around 10 minutes away, has a wider spread including bars on Bell Street.
Late Night
Caterham pubs close early — arrange taxis to Croydon, around 20 minutes, or London, around 45 minutes, for a proper night out.

Reviews
"I was the one organising everything and the booking side was honestly stress-free. Clear info, quick replies, and no chasing needed. That alone was a win."
"I was convinced I’d hate the drawing part because I’m terrible at it, but that wasn’t the point at all. It was funny, relaxed, and surprisingly confidence-boosting."
"What I liked most was that it never felt awkward or cringe. It was cheeky without being uncomfortable, which is harder to pull off than people think."
"We did this at our Airbnb and it worked perfectly in the space. Everything was brought along and set up quickly, so it didn’t feel intrusive at all."
"The bride was laughing the whole time and kept saying how glad she was we’d booked it instead of something more generic. That pretty much sums it up."
"Some of our group didn’t really know each other beforehand, but by the end everyone was chatting like old friends. It genuinely brought the group together"
"It felt really well paced. Nothing dragged and nothing felt rushed. By the time it finished, everyone was in a great mood and ready for the rest of the day."
"I’ve been on a few hens now and this is one of the only activities people actually kept talking about afterwards. It stood out for all the right reasons."
FAQs — Hen Party Life Drawing in Caterham
How much does a life drawing hen party in Caterham cost?
£260 for the complete 90-minute session. This is a flat rate — it covers your host, model, all materials, and travel within Surrey. No per-head charges, no extras.
How long does the session last?
90 minutes in total — 45 minutes of structured life drawing followed by 45 minutes of party games hosted by your Buff Butler.
Do we need any drawing experience?
No. The session is built for people who have never sketched before. The host calibrates the challenges to the room — it’s about enjoyment, not skill.
Can you host at our Airbnb or holiday let in Caterham?
Yes, this is standard. We require a room where your group can sit in a rough semicircle — most living rooms work. Share your venue details when you enquire and we’ll confirm suitability.
What’s the minimum and maximum group size?
We recommend a minimum of 6 guests and can comfortably host up to 15. Smaller groups can work — contact us to discuss.
Is the session suitable for mixed-age groups?
Yes. We’ve hosted groups spanning four decades with no issues. The format is accessible and the host adapts the energy to suit the room.
How far in advance should we book?
At least 4–6 weeks for peak dates, especially Friday–Sunday between April and September. Midweek bookings can often be arranged with 1–2 weeks’ notice. We’d recommend not leaving it later than 2 weeks for any date.
What if our group size changes after booking?
Let us know as soon as possible. The price doesn’t change based on group size, but if your group drops below 4 we’d want to discuss whether the session still makes sense for you.
Do you cover the Caterham Valley and Caterham-on-the-Hill areas equally?
Yes — we travel to any postcode within the CR3 and RH1 areas and the surrounding villages.
How do we book?
Call 01483 363051, email info@buffbutlersinsurrey.co.uk, or complete the online quote form. We’ll reply with availability and next steps.
